The Wedding of Two Souls
Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and His wife has made herself ready
(Revelation 19:7)
In Christian weddings, the comparison is often made of a husband and wife’s relationship to that of a believer’s relationship with Christ. And there is good reason, for the qualities needed for a successful marriage here on Earth are equally important for living in harmony with Christ, the Heavenly Bridegroom.
Scripture includes many references to such qualities, and points to Christ as the perfect example for all our relationships, both earthly and spiritually. Periodically reevaluating ourselves by them can be beneficial. For example:
Trustworthiness – For I am the Lord, I do not change (Malachi 3:6)
Faithfulness – I will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5)
Sacrifice – Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends…while we were still enemies, Christ died for us (John 15:13; Romans 5:8)
Generous – God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16)
Kind/Tenderhearted/Forgiving – Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32
.
Empathetic – We do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15
A friend – No longer do I call you servants…but I have called you friends…a friend loves at all times (John 15:15; Proverbs 17:17
.
No matter our marital status in human terms, there is One Who is the Lover of souls. His desire is for all people to unite with Him in a holy, spiritual union, and enjoy an intimate relationship with Him now and in eternity. When we accept His proposal, we gain a Soulmate Who is not only perfect in every way but is also able to meet and exceed our every need.
Lord, in all my ways I pledge my love,
and promise to be true;
I’ll try each day to treat You right,
and give my best to You.
