Living Victoriously

Clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth
 (Psalm 47:1)

It is difficult, in our humanness, to feel victorious in the middle of defeating circumstances.  Yet God’s Word instructs us to do so.  Not because it is within our power to right every wrong or turn every negative into a positive, but because of what He has done for us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

By giving Himself to die on the cross for our sins, returning to life after death, and ascending into the very presence of God the Father where He serves as our Advocate, the power of evil over the lives of believers has been defeated forever.  Nothing and no one can separate us from His loving care:

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall tribulation, or distress,
 or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?...
In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him Who loved us
 (Romans 8:35)

When we turn to Him in faith, asking His forgiveness for our sins, and accepting Him as our Savior and Lord of our lives, we are born into the family of God and His Spirit sets up residence in our inner being.  He is our guarantee. God’s DNA in us.  The proof of our familial relationship with Him.

As children of the Most High God, it is possible to live in an attitude of victory.  Because of what Jesus Christ has done, Satan’s power to put us down and keep us there has been destroyed.  Unwanted circumstances that weave themselves into our lives cannot destroy us. God has even promised that in some way they will serve to our benefit:

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God,
 to those who are the called according to His purpose
(Romans 8:28)

As Born-Again Believers, we do not have to pray for victory.  Christ, our Savior has already achieved it.  Our part is to thank Him, and to think, feel, and act victoriously.

Thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ
(1 Corinthians 15:57)

                                   Lord, when we look at our lives in the light of Your Word,
                                   and see failures to which we must own,
                                   we can always find help for the changes required;
                                   we simply can't do it alone!
                                   The cross holds the victory now that we need;
                                   You died there to set our lives free.
                                    It's only by trusting Your wonderful power
                                    we become what You want us to be.
